St. Faustina Kowalska received communications and visions from Jesus that she recorded in a diary. Jesus told her His desire for a Feast of Mercy to be celebrated on the First Sunday after Easter with the promise that the soul who goes to Confession (recently) and receives Holy Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday will obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment due to sins. Pope St. John Paul II canonized her on April 30, 2000, and announced that from then on the Second Sunday of Easter will be called Divine Mercy Sunday throughout the Church. She passed away on October 5, 1938 at age 33.
